At 21 Stevie Smith has become one of the top contenders on the World Cup and a fan favorite anywhere he makes an appearance. Steve is known around the globe for his flat out and risk taking style of riding. Steve is also known as one of the most humble guys around, this can all be attributed to his “Island” upbringing. You would think that for someone who is as dominate in his home country and mountain bike mecca of Canada, Steve would be a self-absorbed prick. The reality of this is Steve is far from it.
Stevie hails from his hometown of Cassidy, BC where he spends his offseason training on his home course on Mt Prevost on Vancouver Island BC. Over the last 5 years Steve has solidified his place as one of the top contenders on the World Cup circuit, and the undisputed king Canadian downhill racing. Over the years he has had several mind-blowing results. These include his US Open win in 2008 and his 2nd place finish at the 2010 World Championships in his home country at Mt Ste Anne, Quebec.
These results were the product of Steve’s determination and competitiveness, which extends far beyond the bike. Whether it is splitting wood for his grandpa, laps on the moto track, training at the gym or time on a DH track Steve always wants to take it to the next level and finish the competition.
Steve is not sure what the future will bring, but his drive will ensure 1 thing for sure is that he will be crossing multiple challenges of his list, whether it be more closing segments in the industries top films or World Cup podiums Steve is doing what he has wanted to do the first time he threw a leg over a DH bike, race against the World’s best, he is doing it now. It will happen; it is just a matter of when.
